Q4C delivers 300+ Quilts
A year of accomplishment, Q4C delivers 300+ quilts
Q4C has always produced high volume for those in need, cancer victims, veterans, hospice, local nursing homes, but in 2010 Barb Johnston took on the challenge of 300 quilts for the new VA hospital opening in the spring of 2012 in Las Vegas, NV. Barb announced the project and quilt tops came from across the US, as well as one from a soldier in Europe, quilts were assembled in a couple locations and tied by volunteers.
It was a lot of work, coordination, set backs, health issues, but the need continued and the volunteer's strong commitment to not only the VA hospital but to Barb helped to carry through.
Barb then felt a tug in her heart for the local students who are homeless as well as the homeless vets, so she took on the need for socks, knit caps for warmth, stump covers for vets returning from war, always a need somewhere and Barb continues to take them on.
In 2012 Q4C is sponsoring a yarn drive, one skein will help make items needed, or dropping a few pairs of new socks in the boxes around town will help so many. Imagine your kids going to school all winter with no socks, or the warmth a cap will provide.
Q4C will also continue to makes quilts, programs to teach volunteers how to use the loom for caps, lap throws, ditty bags, wheel chair and walker bags, and the stump covers. We hope you will join our efforts, it is something you can do while sitting in a doctor's office, you can knit in front of the TV, or tie a quilt while waiting for something to bake in the oven. Think of the difference you can make in someone's life by giving a few hours of your time.
Due to health issues, Barb will be more housebound this year, but you can always reach her at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or at 775-751-5356 for further information.
